The Client: Spar Retail – Spar, trademarked as SPAR, is a Dutch multinational retail chain and franchise brand with approximately 12,500 stores in 42 countries worldwide. It was founded in 1932 by Adriaan van Well. Through its affiliate organisations, Spar operates in most European countries, parts of Africa, Asia and Oceania.

Spar have produced a retail leaflet printing over 17 periods per year for some considerable time now; in the past they have used plate changes to differentiate between the six different versions they required. As their store membership numbers grew, they wanted to offer their store owners an individual, personalised leaflet with store opening times and in-store services available. To do this as plate changes was cost prohibitive and they also did not have the time to produce the leaflet this way.

The solution we created was to take all their store information, convert this to excel and then transfer this through smart stream to the web, in the same way we did for other customers. The main difference with SPAR is that head office, manage the data input. Every period we are sent the quantities per store from Spar and we transfer this information to the press. We split the versions by Spar store type and have the job ready for collection by Spar’s own distribution partner. All of this is controlled via our bespoke in-house software Pinpoint.
