You do not need many ingredients to make homemade banana chips – just a lot of time and patience. But the effort is worth it, because the delicious chips simply taste good in yogurt or muesli and are also ideal as a healthy snack between meals. For homemade banana chips are often healthier than those from the supermarket. Some of these contain extra sugar or have been fried so that they contain an unnecessary amount of fat.

Recipe: Make your own banana chips (in the oven)

Ingredients for about 1 baking sheet:

  • 4 bananas
  • juice of 1 lemon

Preparation:

  • Peel the banana and cut it into as thin slices as possible (about 2 to 5 millimeters).
  • Spread the banana slices on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. To prevent the chips from sticking together later, the discs should not touch or overlap.
  • Brush or drizzle over the slices with lemon juice so that they do not turn brown but retain their beautiful yellow color.
  • Place the slices on the baking sheet in the oven and bake the bananas at about 75 ° C for 6 to 8 hours. Place a wooden spoon in the oven door so that the moisture can escape. If you do not have a wooden spoon on hand, open the oven once an hour to let the steam out.

The banana chips are ready as soon as they are dry. This means that they should no longer be flexible and break through under pressure. When exactly this point is reached depends on the oven and the bananas. Come back regularly after 6 hours.

Of course, you can also make banana chips yourself in the dehydrator. The ingredients and how it works are basically identical to the oven, but the dehydrator requires less energy and since the drying of the bananas takes several hours, the oven is not blocked.

Quick recipe for banana chips: from the microwave

If you want something quick, you can also prepare the banana chips in the microwave.

You need:

  • 1 banana
  • A little lemon juice

Here’s how to make quick banana chips without an oven:

  • Put a whole unpeeled banana in a saucepan. Cover the banana with water and cook for about 8 minutes.
  • Take the banana out of the water and let it cool a bit.
  • Peel a squash, grate it and cut it into thin slices.
  • Place the banana slices side by side on a plate and drizzle over the slices with a little lemon juice.
  • Put the plate in the microwave and cook the bananas at a high level for about 10 minutes. Every two minutes, stop the microwave and turn the discs over (warning: hot!). Keep an eye on the banana slices to prevent them from burning.
