You can simply puff amaranth yourself. The grains are light and airy and taste good in muesli. In this article we will show you how to puff amaranth.
amaranth is a nutritious pseudokorn. It is thus a grain that does not belong to the grain but can be used in a similar way. Amaranth is a valuable source of protein, fat and minerals such as phosphorus, potassium, magnesium and calcium, especially for vegans and vegetarians.
Puffed amaranth is light and airy and has a nutty taste. You will often find puffed amaranth in granola blends. You can also puff amaranth yourself. You do not need much for this: in addition to the amaranth grains, you only need a pot with a lid. You can do without oil.
Be sure to use organic amaranth. In this way, you support a sustainable agriculture that does not use chemical synthesis pesticides use, which can be harmful to nature, animals and your own health.
Puffing amaranth: Like this
Puffed Amaranth
- Preparation: about 10 minutes
- Amount: 1 serving (s)
-
Heat a saucepan until it is hot enough. You can test this in two ways: First, you can spray some water into the pot. If it effervesces and evaporates immediately, then it is warm enough. On the other hand, you can put some amaranth grains in the pot. If they inflate after a few seconds, the pot has the right temperature.
-
Then just add enough amaranth grains to the pot to cover the bottom. Be extra careful so that the grains do not form a second layer. If you take too many, some grains can burn while other grains are not even inflated.
-
Do not put a lid on the pot completely closed. When the amaranth starts to swell and bounce around, you want to keep the grains moving so that they do not burn. Therefore, swing the pot continuously back and forth, for example by moving it in small circles on the hob.
-
Make sure that the amaranth does not burn and lower the heat a little if necessary. Quickly remove the pot from the heat when all the kernels have swelled up.
-
Place the puffed amaranth directly in a heat-proof container and allow to cool. This step is important so that they do not burn in the still hot pot.
