The cinnamon-fruity scent of apple pie really evokes homely feelings and memories – of mild summer days in grandma’s garden or cozy autumn evenings at home on the sofa, always with a piece of the juicy “all time favorite” in hand.
Apple pie is one of the most popular cakes in the world – and has been for more than six centuries. Although it is often assumed that the “apple pie” comes from the United States – the real origin of the dish is found in Europe, more specifically in England in the 15th century. The apple pie was first mentioned in 1590, when the British playwright Robert Greene gave the first written, truly poetic reference to the pastry with “Your breath is like the scent of apple pie”. The apple pie still evokes above all positive emotions – only the scent of the sweet dish evokes childhood memories and conveys a feeling of security and home.
Quick enjoyment from the cup
There are now almost countless varieties of the sweet pastry, even Wikipedia defines apple pie as “a generic term for all fine pastries that contain apples as an eponymous ingredient”. The range ranges from covered to sunken to strudel apple pie, includes a Swedish recipe, a French, “Classic American Pie” or an old German variant – just to name a few. And while the world’s grandmothers will probably stare in horror at the idea of an apple pie in the microwave, this recipe is definitely worth a try and has, thanks to the apple as the “eponymous ingredient”, officially earned its right to be on the apple pie list.
In addition, the quick mug of apple pie is not only cooked in a record speed of less than three minutes, but also consists of just a handful of ingredients found in almost every kitchen. The preparation could not be easier either: An apple is cut into small pieces and mixed with eggs, flour, baking powder, cinnamon and sugar as well as melted butter, a pinch of salt and a pinch of flour. The cake goes directly into the microwave and is ready to be eaten after a minute or two. Best of all, the cake is freshly baked, really juicy and can be enjoyed immediately – while still hot. Warning hot!
